Environmentalists say that forty years after the first Earth Day in April 1970, the world is in a greater danger. They claimed that though the earth's climate is changing through natural cycle, it is alarming to note the changes that are occurring nowadays. This is because of man's activities that include large-scale use of fossil fuels for their day-to-day activities.
Climate change brings extreme weather that result to catastrophes, water shortages, diseases and decrease in food production. As these extreme situations occur, people will suffer and eventually lose their lives.
On our part, we get ourselves involved and take the needed actions! The Masigasig Troopers celebrated the 40th Annual Earth Day on 22 April 2010 by lining up some activities that will make the event significant. After the reveille road run, we did the routine polishing of battalion headquarters' surroundings and segregation of unit garbage. At 0900H, we had a lecture with Ms Gliceria S Verzo, Environmental Management Specialist of PENRO-Quezon on subjects regarding Environmental Consciousness.
On her lecture, she stressed that everybody from all walks of life should do the "little things" to protect the environment and minimize global warming. She also instilled among our personnel some points concerning pollution prevention, solid waste management and energy conservation.
The day concluded with the commitment of all Masigasig troopers to care more for the environment to prevent global warming by doing these little things:
1. Plant More Trees
2. Conserve Electricity
3. Save Water
4. Segregate, Compost and Recycle
5. Share/Educate our Families
